My primary focus as an artist is to bring physical form to my mind in an attempt to communicate and relate to other people.  I’ve been evolving from drawings on paper—ink charcoal or otherwise and incorporating my textile craftwork into the environment.  I'm going in a direction where I create installations that transplants people into my headspace, bringing people into a new environment entirely.

I draw inspiration from artists like Yayoi Kusama and Mariko Mori who grew up vastly different, but both reflect on ways that they navigate through their lives in the present, past, and future.  I’ve also been heavily influenced by artist Jeila Gueramain who uses found fabrics and objects to create whimsical installations that transform the audience back into their childhoods. I want to connect with people in a more personal and intimate level while reflecting on my own experiences and need for connection within my artwork.

About

Liz Brick is a mixed-media artist originally from the North-Shore of Massachusetts. Her art is primarily comprised of thin, line drawings that abstract the forms of body and the face relating to her own personal experiences in mediating her own mental health. Recently, Brick has branched out into sculpture and installation to play on light, shadow, and your surroundings. She aims to produce a more interactive conversation with her audience, keeping the metaphor of seeing parts of one’s self in other people, and how that effects one’s personality. Brick recently completed her BA in Visual Art at Massachusetts College of Liberal Arts, and currently works at The Massachusetts Museum of Contemporary Art.
